The Office of Dietary Supplements, which was established DSHEA, should be given sufficient funding to coordinate dietary supplement research; at least the five million that Congress authorized, but which has never been appropriated. Under DSHEA, ODS has been designated as the principal advisor to FDA on dietary supplement issues, including safety and claims. Congress specifically directed ODS
to compile a data base of scientific research on dietary supplements and individual nutrients, and to coordinate NIH funding concerning dietary supplement research.
