"In order to undertake an evaluation of the PROGRESS ESG Risk Assessment Tool (
company’s environmental, social and governance practices), the analyst will need to
identify the information required to answer the tools’ questions.
On a principal level, there are three types of sources for such information:
- Company disclosures: Annual reports and accounts, sustainability reports, corporate social responsibility reports, environmental reports, corporate websites, public filings, etc.
- Information obtained directly from the company, specifically for usage during the ESG evaluation. Such information may be obtained via interviews and dialogue with management and/or questionnaires.
- 3rd party information: This may include information from service providers that specifically collect ESG‐ related data, and then offer this data to investors for further analysis. It may also include information from public agencies that monitor or otherwise document company practices, as well as information published in print and on‐line by 3rd parties such as non‐governmental organizations, bloggers or journalists."
