U.S. State Department seeks to improve knowledge management system
The Overseas Presence Interagency Collaboration System, software designed in response to the 1998 bombings of U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania, is a prime candididate for beefing up urgently needed co-operation between some 40 government agencies. The State Department's Chief Information Officer, Fernando Burbano, is quoted as saying, "We want to go to a virtual knowledge management system that's secure. It's going to be available at the classified and unclassified levels." Last April, the Department allocated $17 million for a prototype and pilot test of the system as part of his agenda to upgrade its network infrastructure. [source NewsWorldFusion]
